Direct sync with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 won't work

Hi!

A problem that's been bugging me for a -long- time now is the problems i've
been experiencing with direct exchange sync (sync with my computer/outlook
directly is ok). It just doesn't work. Anyone else have a feeling that MS
have released these products (WM5/ActiveSync 4.X) far too early?

I've tried the guides available at

http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/742183-1.html
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/acti...shoot-as4x.htm
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx

....including installing the server's certificate on my Qtek.

But no go. The error message is "0x85010001 - Your account in Microsoft
Exchanger Server does not have permission to synchronize with your current
settings."

I'd appreciate any input on this one! Is there a way to verify all settings
on the exchange server manually (outside of the Qtek?).

I have more or less complete control over the Exchange 2003 box since I'm
one of the admins there.

I hate to add rather then to help. But I too have had a problem getting this
working.

I have a UTStarcom PPC6700 with Mobile 5. My Exchange is running on an SBS
2003 premium.

I had a lot of problems at first with certificates. So I installed a cert
authority, generates a cert for the mobile device, and installed a new cert
in IIS. That go rid of the cert error, (I think) now I get same errors as you
mention. Specifically: 85010004

SBS already had a Virtual directory set up in exactly the way the kb mentions.
But even if i did this.. I wouldn't want to. simply put I need SSL to work,
because I want to sync this over the internet. Also after trying this out it
still doesn't work.

I have a few other ideas to try though. as soon as I get somewhere I'll let
you know!

I think I have the solution.

Special thanks goes to MS PSS on this one.

Open up Exchange System Manager -> Global Settings -> Mobile Services

Righ click -> properties

Open Device Security. Uncheck all options in this panel. Close the panel.

As long as your Certs are in order, the synch should work. I'm guessing that
becasue the devices don't have the manegment pack installed these options are
tripping something up. Hope this works for everyone!
