Direct X 7.6 installing games

Hi everyone i recently purchased escape from monkey island and i have direct
x 7.0b but when i try to install the game it just says that the file
windows/system32/autoexec.NT is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft
windows applications. and the game then wont install. Any help would be much
appreciated. Thankyou

What operating system?
Is that game compatible with that operating system?
Check with the game manufacturer.

DX7 is several years old and quite outdated, DX 9.0c is now available,
