Direct X9.0c Problem

I'm trying to install Sims 2. I get the option to install Direct X9.0c
during installation, but it stops responding about half way through. I
downloaded Direct x9.0c from the Microsoft website, but I can't open it.
I've tried double click and right click-extract files, but my computer
doesn't seem to want to cooperate. I'm a user-friendly kind of computer
user, so plain English and small words would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Kristy, I have the same problem. Halfway through the install process it
stops. Then it tells me some files could not be copied and the install
process stops. I am miffed at this problem and can`t find an answer.
