directx

everytime I try to start a new game, it gives me an error failed to
initialize direct3d.
I've reinstalled, troubleshooter says directx is fine, and acceleration is
full. someone please help!

How does this pertain to Windows Update?

I got the directx update from the windows update? Is there another update I
need to download to make this work?
