This may occur if Service Pack 1 has been removed from the computer either through System
Restore or by reinstalling Windows XP into the same directory. You may see a page that
states that the Web page has an unexpected error or cannot display the page that was
requested.
Resolutions:
The value for the CSDVersion in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Windows
needs to be changed to 0. If you are comfortable editing the registry, follow the
instructions below.
1. Click "Start," and then click "Run."
2. In the Open box type regedit and click "OK."
3. Browse in the left frame to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Windows
4. In the right frame you will see the key CSDVersion. Double click this key.
5. Change the value to 0 and click "OK."
6. Restart the computer.

Have a look here:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
Or here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm
Look for: Why can't I download updates?
Or here:
http://www2.cajun.net/~theriots/blk/up_probs.htm
Or here:
http://www.kellys-korner.com/

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Hello

The sollution you provided did not help.
I still get the same error.

My machine is a clean (format disks) install of Windows XP PRO with SP1.

As you can see here :
http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-US;drx
There is an article about this problem, but when you click it it
says it's anavailable.

There's more people with the same problem. As I have seen people
ask about this in several forums. The answer they got was to ask in
MS ng's.

So, If anyone has the sollution, please help

Thank You
Regards
Eivind

This is a common problem. You can try the workarounds below. If they do
not
work, please send %windir%\directx.log.

1) Make sure your cryptography services are enabled. To do this, go to my
computer | manage | services and applications | services. Then go to
cryptography services properties and make sure the service is started and
startup type is set to automatic.
2) If you are running Windows on a FAT32 drive, run scandisk.
3) Try the resolution steps in
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;326815
4) Try the resolution steps in
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;813442
5) Remove temporary files in %temp% and (if installing end-user runtime)
%windir%\system32\directx\websetup

Hello

I tried your sollution but it did not help.

1) Cryptography services are enabled
2) I'm running NTFS (I ran chkdsk /f)
3) The Knowledge Base (KB) Article You Requested Is Currently Not Available
4) Did that
5) Did that

---------------------------------------------------------------
I've come up with a solution of my own, I haven't rebooted yet, but the
installation was successful, at least it seems to be..

what I did:
read the directx.log, found which files it had problems with.
(It only reports one file per installation attempt.)

Made backups of the files with problems
in my case :
%windir%/system32/msweb.dll
%windir%/system32/d3dim700.dll
%windir%/system32/msvidctl.dll

Then from the %windir%\system32\directx\websetup folder
I extracted mswebdvd.dll from dshow_nt_eng.cab
I extracted d3dim700.dll from graphics_nt.cab
I extracted msvidctl.dll from bda_wxp.cab

Then copied the files to
%windir%/system32/msweb.dll
%windir%/system32/d3dim700.dll
%windir%/system32/msvidctl.dll
%windir%/system32/dllcache/msvidctl.dll

Then I ran the install, and all seems ok.
I'm rebooting now..
Will tell you how it went soon.....
