Is there a way to totally disable Data Execution Prevention? I've been
using Windows since it's initial release, and I've always gotten along fine
without this annoying feature. It's more trouble than it's worth in my
estimation, and I'd like nothing better than to get rid of it completely.

Bcdedit:

Boot Parameters to Configure DEP and PAE

Looks to me like this would do it:

BCDEdit /set {ID} nx AlwaysOff

Hi Buddha,

This tutorial will show you how to Enable or Disable DEP completely.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/12...e-disable.html

This tutorial will show you how to add programs to an exclusion list to
not have DEP run for them.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/65...-programs.html

Hope this helps you,
Shawn

This seems to work OK, although when I try to confirm DEP is disabled as
instructed on the page, I get a 3 instead of a 0. I'll see what happens.

Thanx,

Buddha

Ok Buddha,

As long as it is working for you now, it will be ok. The 3 is the same
as having "Turn DEP for all programs and services except those I check:"
dotted.

Glad to hear it is working for you now.

Shawn

DEP provides protection against an inherent weakness in the von Neumann
architecture which allows security and stability issues to arise. Therefore
DEP is a good thing.

If it is causing "trouble", it's doing its job! I recommend you find out
what programs are trying to execute from their data segment and update or
replace them.
