Hi,

I want to disable my welcome screen (I am the only user on this computer)
and go straight to the desktop after boot. Help says that you can't do this
in Vista, but I saw the option to disable it when I was getting tech support
from Dell for another issue. I just don't remember where the option was to
uncheck the box. Can anyone help me please?

I think you are talking 2 different things, the "Welcome Center" has a
checkbox, that's the screen you get after a new install, I think you
mean the login screen that has the user ID buttons?

I don't think you can disable it, but you can set your password blank
although that is not a great idea.

Hi David,

Click Start, select Run, then type in "control userpasswords2" without the
quote marks, and hit enter. Uncheck the box "Users must enter a username
and password to use this computer", hit Apply. In the next dialogue box,
select the user that you want to automatically login with, enter username
and password if it has one.

This will log the account in automatically straight to the desktop. You
will still be able to logoff and logon with other accounts if you have any.
