Does "We" mean You (a technical zero) and the many aliases you
use to attack your adversaries and to spam advertise your products
on Usenet and on Internet forums, Marty?

The spammer's reply is typical, to take the opportunity to tout
his business and attack the character of the person(s) trying to
get him to stop spamming USENET. Marty is by far the most
persistent and aggressive spammer on USENET I have run across.

Marty Martin Markoe uses many aliases while attacking his
adversaries and advertising his commercial website, on USENET
and elsewhere.

http://www.knowbrainer.com/
"...Mike Tavia is another one of approximately 20 KnowBrainer forum
aliases for Martin Markoe of emicrophones who was banned from this
forum for personal attacks. We are not certain why Martin has felt
the need to resort to these types of tactics..."

The malicious spammers from eMicrophones MyMSSpeech stalk, slander,
threaten others, and violate the privacy of innocent people who have
nothing to do with fighting eMicrophones MyMSSpeech spam.

Following are a few examples that illustrate the annoyance and
frustration eMicrophones MyMSSpeech spam from Marty Martin Markoe
causes users seeking help in speech recognition groups and why
advertising is prohibited on the unmoderated USENET except in
specifically labeled groups.

We have no idea what your real problem is. In March you called my mother,
now deceased, a whore.

As for technical zero, let's look at the facts:
1. We have 15 years speech recognition experience.
2. We were invited to Redmond by the speech recognition work group to
preview and critique Windows Speech Recognition prior to its release with
Vista.
3. Members of the Microsoft Speech Recognition workgroup gave advice and
encouraged our company to develop the WSRToolkit found at:
http://www.mymsspeech.com/microphone...sp?subcatID=71
which adds 7 useful functions to WSR.

As for you Mr. Doe, the public record found you have been arrested multiple
times for domestic violence. Besides this and your filthy mouth you have not
contributed an iota of useful information on the internet.

Mr. Markoe

Says a malicious nym-shifting hard-core spammer who has been
caught using dozens of different aliases here and on the Web
in speech forums.

Back to the original question......

If you are developing your own program, (you probably are if you're
concerned with grammar files), then yes you can use Speech Recognition
without enabling the Windows Commands:

Heya Mike,

Not sure if you'll still be interested, but there is a solution to your
question. If you've moved on, it'll still be relevant to the rest of us,
so I'll post away....

There's two ways to instance a speech recogniser using SAPI. The most
common, and the simplest is through simply using the shared recogniser:

hr = pRecognizerEngine.CoCreateInstance( CLSID_SpSharedRecognizer );

The more complicated way is to create your own recogniser:

hr = pRecognizerEngine.CoCreateInstance( CLSID_SpInprocRecognizer );

The shared recogniser requires that you enable the shared recogniser,
which turns on the Windows command recognition grammar. You can't avoid
it, this is disappointing and frustrating. The solution is the second
option, creating your own recogniser.

You do not need to turn on the Windows Speech recognition, instead you
end up with your own recognition engine, completely independant of the
Windows command recogniser.

This MSDN guide is for using WAV -> SR, but most of it applies:

'Using WAV File Input with SR Engines (SAPI 5.3)'
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...8VS.85%29.aspx)

Replace the Stream object wit han spAudio object and you're almost
there, here's the Audio Object Code(shortened, no HRESULT checks):

CComPtr<ISpObjectToken> pAudioToken;
CComPtr<ISpAudio> pAudio;

// Try the default
hr = SpGetDefaultTokenFromCategoryId(SPCAT_AUDIOIN, &pAudioToken);

// Connect the Device
hr = pRecognizerEngine->SetInput(pAudioToken, TRUE);

hr = SpCreateDefaultObjectFromCategoryId(SPCAT_AUDIOIN, &pAudio);

hr = pRecognizerEngine->SetInput(pAudio, TRUE);

After that you can continue using the MSDN link above, and will be
almost finished, except you need to manually activate the Audio Stram
from a microphone / Line-In:

hr = pGrammar->SetGrammarState(SPGS_ENABLED);
hr = pNavGrammar->SetDictationState(SPRS_ACTIVE);

Assuming you are careful in checking the errors, you'll have your own
voice recognition, and NO windows commands going off!

Have funz0r!
