Disable Windows Update

We are trying to use GPO to keep our XP pro systems from downloading updates
on their own. We are able to prevent our users from making changes, but we
can't keep updates from running. We have over 500 PCs. Please help

To help some people whom may read this what server do you have? Do you have
SUS?

Hi;

Not sure I understand. If you are wise enough to invoke GPO then you
should be able to set the policy for all those 500 machines preventing
AU/WU from working.

Sounds like you may be new to the networking Admin side of things (we
have all been at one time, so nothing to be ashamed of.). Suggest you
read the Group Policy Help files for the information you need. There's
a lot of good info there.

I've been doing quite a bit of searching on the subject, but nothing seems to
actually disable it. I can make it to where the user can't change any options
but we would need to make sure that all our systems had it disabled first,
then invoke the GPO. If you know of a particular help file that may be of
use, please let me know. Thanks.

Load (or Add) the WUAU.adm template to the Grp Policy editor. Then read
the description of "Remove access to use all Windows Update features"
and similar items.

You'll probably find better insights on this in one of the setup or
configuration newsgroups than this one.
