Disabling Media Centre in Vista

How can I disable Media Centre in Windows Vista? I have an equivalent
program (TotalMedia) already running and some items malfunction due to the
presence of Media Centre.

Hi Bob,

Windows Media Center is a default part of the system and is not
uninstallable. Unless you are loading it at boot or other time, it would not
normally be active and should not interfere with any other application.
Check your startup axis to ensure that it is not loading as part of the boot
routine. The mere presence of an inactive program should not cause an issue,
only if it's actively running. Also make sure that the version of TotalMedia
that you are running is compatible with Vista, older versions may not be.

Thanks, Rick, for your response. I have installed a Freecom USB stick DVB-T
on my laptop (O.S. is Windows Vista Home Premium) for watching Freeview TV
programs, and I configured Windows Media Center to receive and broadcast the
TV signals for my area. Since the reception was not very smooth, I installed
ArcSoft TotalMedia software which was provided with the manufacturer's
(Driver and Software) CD. Now I find that the reception is better but still
not perfect, and I thought that the presence of Media Center might be the
reason for the flaws. Hence I am keen to remove the Media Center
configurations pertaining to TV tuning. I dont know how to do this and was
wondering if there was a way to disable Media Center altogether, other than
reinstalling the Operating system. The TotalMedia program is fully
compatible with Vista. Do you think that a System Restore to the time before
I installed the USB Tuner Stick may help?

Hi,

You can try it, it certainly won't hurt anything. But, I think you may find
that the problem is not Windows Media Center, but rather something
interfering with your signal.
