Disabling Narrator and Defender

Hi,

I have a friend running Windows Vista Business who'd like to stop
having Narrator come up every time he boots up. When he somehow tried
to suppress Narrator, Defender popped up asking whether he'd like to
enable it.

My friend would like to disable the Narrator automatic start-up.
Likewise, he'd like to disable the Defender pop-up.
I'd like to help him over the phone.

I'm running WinXP/SP2, so I can't help him without some guidance from
more knowledgeable people.

http://maximillianx.blogspot.com/200...fender-in.html
offers Defender advice that looks good to me. Anybody got any
comments about it?

http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=738579 recommends msconfig
and un-checking Narrator.
Sounds good to me. Any comments.

Thanks in Advance,
Richard

Have you had your friend look at what is in his Start Up sequence. Has he already tried to remove it from there .

Hi Peter,

He received my email referring him to my post here and any responses
it might evoke. I probably won't talk to him until the weekend.

I just wonder if the links in included in my original post offered
sound advice for Vista.

Regards,
Richard

Mission accomplished! My friend followed the advice offered by one of
the sites to which I referred him. He got rid of Narrator and no was
no longer concerned about Defender.

Richard

if your friend is confident in working on the registry this may work

GoTO

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Accessibility

Set to Data to 0

if not, I am sure someone can come up with a solution using MSCONFIG.

Hi Bob,

Thanks. I'll pass it along and help him with it.
