disabling trackpad

Hello,

I have a 64-bit Windows 7 laptop but I like to use a USB mouse instead
of a touchpad. I would like the touchpad to be disabled either all the
time
or when the USB mouse is plugged in (the mouse is always plugged in).
The reason I need to disable it is that when I type I keep on
accidentally
hitting the touchpad and this annoys me since it makes the pointer
highlight
and click and do stuff I don't want it to do. Is there any way to
disable the
touchpad on Windows 7?

Most laptops have a function key that allows you to disable the touch pad.
These functions are accessed with the Fn key and the appropriate key on the
top row of the laptop keyboard.

Hi,
In addition to Charlie's suggestion you can also disable it in Device
Manager.
In my notebook I have two entries in the "Mouse and other pointing
devices" section.
One is for my external mouse and the other one is for the embedded
Synaptics touchpad.
Disable the one you don't want from there.
