Okay. I'll play "Lab Rat" for a few days; shouldn't hurt my Windows Live
Contacts to do this.
A. Invoke Windows Live Mail, and configure to, "Stop signing in ..." with a
Windows Live ID.
B. Open WLMail Contacts; the list is empty. I've always played with WLMail
using a Windows Live ID, and have newly upgraded to Windows 7, so this is no
surprise.
C. Invoked Acronis True Image Home, and located the old, Windows XP MCE 2005
..wab file in the backup image. Used the "Restore specified files or folders"
option. Located the old .wab file in the image, and restored it to a similar
location in Windows 7.
D. Invoked the WLMail Contacts, and selected, File | Import | Windows
address book (.WAB). Located the newly restored .wab file (Windows 7
security required that I "Take ownership" of the file to proceed). The
import was successful. Initially had 210 contacts listed.
E. Closed WLMail Contacts, closed WLMail.
F. Restarted WLMail, restarted WLMail contacts. Now showing 208 contacts.
At this point, I shall try to remember to fire up WLMail once a day for the
next 7 days, and check my Contacts. I had four "Groups", which WLMail
converted to "Categories". The number of contacts:
All contacts (208)
Category A (15)
Category B (8)
Category C (5)
Category D (7)
In seven days, I will see if there are any more changes that the initial two
lost from the "All contacts" list (210 reduced to 208).
