I keep importing contacts from an access 2007 db (cvs).
Import goes ok but after a few days the contacts disappear, all of them.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I seem to recall some early issues; before I discovered that Windows Live
Mail will synchronize its Contacts List with whichever Windows Live ID I use
to sign in with. Since different IDs may have different Contacts, changing
the ID used can change the list. Also, if you "Stop signing in ..." with a
Windows Live ID, there is yet another WLMail Contacts list; the local list
on your computer.

All I can say is that it can be very confusing until you get used to the way
that WLMail Contacts are synchronized, or not.

Also see this:

You may run up against a hard limit, imposed by Windows Live Hotmail, if you
are using a Hotmail account as your Windows Live ID for WLMail.

I'm the only one using WLM.
I have so far not required to log in. So as far as WLM is concerned the same
user runs the program day in and day out.
I don't have another contact list anywhere else, either.

I am not using Windows Live Mail in that fashion, so I haven't a clue about
what is happening when it is so used.

Only about 10.
But if 10 disappear what the heck will happen with 100?

Okay. I'll play "Lab Rat" for a few days; shouldn't hurt my Windows Live
Contacts to do this.

A. Invoke Windows Live Mail, and configure to, "Stop signing in ..." with a
Windows Live ID.

B. Open WLMail Contacts; the list is empty. I've always played with WLMail
using a Windows Live ID, and have newly upgraded to Windows 7, so this is no
surprise.

C. Invoked Acronis True Image Home, and located the old, Windows XP MCE 2005
..wab file in the backup image. Used the "Restore specified files or folders"
option. Located the old .wab file in the image, and restored it to a similar
location in Windows 7.

D. Invoked the WLMail Contacts, and selected, File | Import | Windows
address book (.WAB). Located the newly restored .wab file (Windows 7
security required that I "Take ownership" of the file to proceed). The
import was successful. Initially had 210 contacts listed.

E. Closed WLMail Contacts, closed WLMail.

F. Restarted WLMail, restarted WLMail contacts. Now showing 208 contacts.

At this point, I shall try to remember to fire up WLMail once a day for the
next 7 days, and check my Contacts. I had four "Groups", which WLMail
converted to "Categories". The number of contacts:

All contacts (208)
Category A (15)
Category B (8)
Category C (5)
Category D (7)

In seven days, I will see if there are any more changes that the initial two
lost from the "All contacts" list (210 reduced to 208).

A few people have complained about contacts disappearing, usually after
closing and re-opening the app. No solution has been found, but the cause
may have been isolated, involving network adapters. Nick H [MSFT] posted
this in the Messenger group a month ago ( http://tinyurl.com/ye4fs5p ):

[About disappearing contacts]
Here's an update for those people running into this goofy problem. We've
found the source and are currently working on a fix to the problem.

If the high-order bit of the first byte of the MAC address is on (usually
indicating a multicast or broadcast address) or the Vendor ID is returned
as 0xffffff (indicating a vendor without a IEEE-registered code) then a
system call gives us something we don't expect which causes the missing
contact.
</quote>

So, if you have the opportunity to use a different NIC (eg. by using a
cable instead of a wireless network connection), you could try that and see
if the problem persists. I'm guessing it won't be fixed until the next
(Wave 4) release of Windows Live Essentials.

Day two as Lab Rat. Still showing 208 contacts overall, and no change in the
Category counts ...
