Hi, rfpatzman.
In my experience, every time I've downloaded something from the Internet,
Windows has put the downloaded file where I told it to put it. Sometimes,
my instruction has been given so automatically that I never even noticed.
But when that little box comes up that asks if I want to Run or Save, I
click Save. The next box offers to put the file to the same location where
it put the last one that it downloaded - but it also allows me to Browse to
a different location. Years ago I created a new Download folder (on my
Drive E

.
Almost all my downloads go to that folder, from which I can move the file if
I want it somewhere else.
One way to find where your last download went is to start to download the
same file again. This time, watch carefully - DON'T just click, click,
click without reading the screens. Watch carefully to see where Vista
proposes to put this new download. Chances are, THAT's where it put your
previous download of the same file. Look there. If the previous file is
not there, then let Vista download it into that location - or choose another
folder - and write it down this time.
IF that doesn't work, post back. There is at least one "brute force" way
guaranteed to find your missing file - if you know at least part of the
filename - by using the ancient "Dir" command from a Command Prompt window.
