Disappearing Mouse Pointer

When I move my mouse to a field that is designed to enter data into, my mouse
pointer disappears instead of showing an elongated I for editing. For example
when I moved my mouse to the Message input box in the New Question dialog box
the mouse pointer disappeared.
Otherwise the mouse pointer performs normally. This started happening right
after I changed the resolution on my monitor and then changed it back.
