Disc Defragmenter Problem

The Disc Deframenter remains on 0% for many minutes. I don't recall this
happening during prior uses. PC: ME, IE 6 with with a 56k dial up
connection.

1/30/2005 I sought advice on a problem installing windows update for Service
Pack 1. Could the current problem with DD program be a result from possibly
not having done something correctly/completely when implementing steps to
resolve per recommendation of discussion group?

2. In the past the DD would start all over again with 0% defragmentation
when running the program while surfing the internet. It would quickly catch
up and resume at the % of defragmentation left off .

Is it best not to surf the net during DD to allow the program to work
without interruption?
