disconnected from internet

after installing updates -Windows malicious software removall tool-july 2008
(KB890830) and Security update for Windows XP (KB951748)- and restarting,
there was no connection to the internet, the moden said it was connected but
IE woudent connect and said there was no connection. uninstalled updates and
got my connection back. what happened?

Are you running Zone Alarm?

If not, what Internet Security Software are you using?
