Disconnecting Drive Maps over WAN

We currently have a remote office connected to our network via a T1 WAN.
They have their own file server which they map to and they also map to a file
server on our side via the WAN. When a user at the remote office launch
Windows Explorer or My Computer the window will freeze for a couple of
minutes and then display the drives. From testing, it seems that the drive
mappings to our local server seem to be the issue. The drive mappings are
timing out (disconnecting) after 15 minutes and it takes a while for them to
reconnect. This issue seems to have started after recently running critical
updates on our Windows 2003 server. I’m aware of the article on how to
increase the auto disconnect time out on the server
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297684, but I was wondering if there is
something else we can tweak. I’m trying to avoid having stale connections on
a busy file server.

You could try just adding a shortcut to the desktop instead of mapping a
drive, so they only use it if they need it.
Or perhaps this: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=816375

Thanks,

I tried http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=816375 with no luck. Using a
shortcut is not an option for us. It just started happening two weeks ago
and that's the same time I ran critical updates on our Windows Server; so I'm
thinking it was one of the updates? I'm just curious if anyone else has ran
into this after running one of these updates and if they have a fix?
