How do I permanently remove the default check mark in the box next to
"Thumbnails" or eliminate the category? Thank you in advance for any
assistance provided.

Hello C.B.

Give this a tяy and see if it solves the problem................

As for diskclean up, go to Run, type:

CLEANMGR /SAGESET

Check the files you want it to clean,OR the oposite, once thru, return to
Run, type:

CLEANMGR /SAGERUN

This also works in cmd.

Come back and let everyone here know the results.

Good luck and a Happy Thanksgiving Day

Thank you very much for your assistance. I tried what you suggested but it
didn't work. The checkmark remains in the "Thumbnails" box. I haven't
rebooted yet. It's quite possible the result will be different after the
reboot. I'll let you know.

Problem solved. The answer is below:

"Here are the instructions.... usual registry editing "warning" applies.
Always backup the registry before making changes.

Launch Regedit.exe and navigate to the following branch:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Thumbnail
Cache

Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named StateFlags

Leave the value data to 0

Exit the Registry Editor."

Hi C.B.

Thanks for posting back. That's always a nice gesture when we get back a
post indicating if the suggestions were helpful or not.

Thanks for sharing this useful information. It's great.
