Is there a way to access defrag.exe in Vista RC1? I'm an advanced user and
would prefer to use the full graphical defragment utility, not the limited
one that pops up when you click on drive properties, then defragment. It
appears they have made it simpler, but it also doesn't display nearly as much
information.

As I understand there are two ways to access defrag.exe, through the command
prompt and from the System32 folder. I figured out how to access it through
the command prompt (using an administrator command prompt) but that only
gives me a text version. When I click the file in System32 it tries to do
something (command prompt window displays for a few milliseconds) but then
nothing happens (this is the same as "run" "defrag.exe"). Thanks for the
help.

Unfortunately the graphical version is gone and only the dumbed down version
remains which tells you absolutely nothing and won't even let you select an
individual drive. The command line version gives you a bit more control, but
it doesn't tell you a thing either. Personally I'm going to replace it as
soon as a compatible version of PerfectDisk is released.

PerfectDisk 8.0 Build 31 (beta) works with VISTA now - can dowload from
their website.

Not with 64-bit only 32-bit vista. Software refused to install citing 32
bit compatibility

In article <91D4B39F-15B5-411C-820C->,
leetudave says...

I use Diskeeper 9. I did an upgrade from Windows XP to Build 5728. The
advisor mentioned no compatibility issues with Diskeeper so I left it
installed.

After installing Vista I fired up Diskeeper. Got a MMC error message
and some choices which were close the app or ignore the error. I
ignored the error and it ran.

As I'm well backed up I had nothing to lose so ran a defrag with
Diskeeper. It worked OK and so far I've had no problems.

Every time I run Auslogic Disk Defrag, the system goes into a sluggish mode. Once I reboot the system is back up to its normal speed....
