Vista Home Premium 64bit and Ultimate 32bit

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Disk Management

Disk 0 - Ultimate ( D )
Disk 1 - Home Premium 64 ( C )
Disk 2 - Files ( G )
Disk 3 - Removable - no media ***
Disk 4 - CDROM 0 DVD ( E )
Disk 5 - CDROM 1 DVD ( F )

*** is a card reader in a HP Photosmart 7760 printer. This drive was
always( H ). Something happened and now it has no drive letter. (I suspect
this is related to the Generic Volume Code 10 I posted earlier). If I put a
media card in, it is recognized and shows up in Disk Management under Drive
3. I cannot, however, assign a letter to this drive. When I right click on
the drive, select "Change Drive Letters and Paths..." I get a popup window
with a red circle/white X:

The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is
not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem
persists close the Disk Management Console, then restart Disk Management or
restart the computer."

I have close/restarted console and computer several time - same thing, can't
assign drive letter.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Open Disk Management and under Storage click on Disk Management.
On the Toolbar, click on Action > Rescan Disks

Thanks Carey,

I have refreshed, rescanned, and rebooted at least 3 times, all with the
same result - I cannot assign a letter to the drive.

Carey,

That was my next step - thanks for the reminder.
I'm sure this is going to be something very simple.
