I have been trying to find the path for the display pictures used in Windows
Live Messenger in Vista, but can't seem to find them. Can anyone tell me
where they are located?

Hello Mark,

Try here:
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Messenge r\YOURLIVEID\ObjectStore\UserTile
or
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\MessengerCach e

The pictures are in a proprietary format, ie they are not stored as .bmp or
..jpg.

Jane, you must be thinking of XP. It does not appear this way in Vista.

Mark spewed out this bit, and i'll scatter a few bits myself:

That's exactly how it appears in my Vista installation for MSN messenger.
Don't know about Live messenger though, as I don't have it installed. I'd
imagine it can't be much different.

Hi Mark,

I took those locations directly from my Vista install with Windows Live
Messenger. AppData is a hidden folder.

Try this, it's where I found mine:

C:\Documents and Settings\name\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Messenger\\ObjectSt ore

Name would be your local user account and would be
your IM or Windows Live Messenger address. Note if D: is your primary
drive then try there instead of C:.

Just an FYI, I have Live Messenger on Vista Home Premium 64bit and the
files are located in the

C:\Users\%userid%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Messenge r\[Live
Login]\ObjectStore\UserTile.

The files are in a proprietary format of *.dt2 & *.id2. Copy the *.dt2
(sort my date and retrieve the latest if you just created it) to your
desktop. Rename it [filename].jpg. Then you can open in any picture
software to view or modify.

Cheers,
