distorted sound when playing audio cd

I am running windows vista home premium service pack 1 pentium (r) dual core
cpu e5200 @ 2.50ghz with 4 gb of ram. 64 bit operating system.

When playing audio cd the sound is horribly distotred but my flac and mp3
files sound fine. I have a ATI High definition audio -ATI AA01 sound in my
pc, and have checked and changed setting but to no avail.

If you do have Codec packs installed, I recommend to uninstall those
But use the REVO uninstaller (fourth/last option). That way you ar
certain to scrap all the registry entries - and codec packs have a lot
