Distorted voice in wlm 8.2

I have in the past had clear conversations with my friend, however, now when
he talks I cannot decipher what he is saying. Voice is distorted, he hears
me clearly although there is a bit of a lag when we first connect....I am
using wlm 8.2, acer aspire 3500 computer with Windows xp sp 2 home
edition....it is just so frustrating.

Please help and any help would be appreciated.

I posted this the other day and since then have downloaded the 8.5 and
although the conversation is not so distorted there are breaks in the
communication where one or both of us cannot hear the other for a brief
time....the conversation has a "tinny" sound about it with some
distortion....Since I received no reply the other day I am wondering if
anyone does have a clue to what the problem might be, however at the same
time realize that this is a complimentary service....a reply would be
appreciated when time is available....
