Hi,

We have customers who need usbser.sys to be installed and we would like to
distribute it along with the appropriate inf file. Can we legally do this or
will Microsoft raise a stink?

Thanks,
Gary A.

WinXP SP3 already contains usbser.sys. No need to redistribute.
Get your customers updated to SP3 (legally, of course

And now for some real information: usbser.sys has been packaged with
Windows since at least the Win98 days. You just have to set up your
INF to unpack it from the driver CAB.

All,

Thanks for the replies. I should have added a little more info regarding the
installation. Our customers are using Windows XP Embedded and the HW
manufacturer decided NOT to include those drivers in their build and thus the
lack of support to begin with.
Back to the original question; is it OK to redistribute usbser.sys with our
inf file so our customers can use USB COM with our products?
