Disturbing security message on a website

Win XP Home SP3 IE6

I was looking for some info on the web about display screens and on
one of the sites I visited a small box appeared showing my IP address,
ISP name and what browser I was using. Beneath the box was a web
address for danasoft.com. I have run quick scans with Malwarebytes
and SuperAntiSpyware and nothing was reported. but should I be worried
about a security breach?

Hi Kate,

No. Every site you visit will know that information about your computer and
which browser it is using, and your ISP. (There are exceptions.. All AOL
users have the same IP address, some ppl use cloaking software to hide their
IP address.)

There are a number of web services you can use to ascertain the
trustworthiness of sites.

Here is the SiteAdvisor report for dynasoft.com

http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/dynasoft.com

Regards.

From your post's headers, I can determine your IP (80.176.75.175), ISP name
(demon.co.uk), that you're using a WinXP SP3 computer and Outlook Express,
and that here's a very good chance that your computer's fully-patched at
Windows Update.

You could add Danasoft's IP widget to your webpage, too:
http://www.danasoft.com/

No, I wouldn't be concerned about this.

Thanks for the reassurance, Rob and Robear. I hadn`t realised that
this information was so freely-available, so it came as a surprise.
Thanks again
Kate

YW. Consider the internet one big bulletin board plastered with gazillions
of postcards: Everyone can know everything if they only know where to look.
<wink>

And if my memory about Demon and their IP/hostname allocation is correct,
then those are nice photos of insects and birds that the OP has taken too

As PA Bear has said, the information that site showed you should not be of
concern as pretty much every site you visit has access to the same details,
as your browser always sends it's User Agent string (identifying which
browser it is), and the underlying network layer sends your IP address (if
no intermediate proxy is involved) as this tells the web server where to
return the data to. Once someone has an IP address it's trivial to look that
up in the appropriate assignment database (in this case RIPE as it's a
European IP assignment) and that will almost always provide the ISP details.
From there getting any more details takes a lot of legwork, and won't
necessarily be successful.

I won`t ask how you found my website, but thanks for the compliment,
Dan!
