No, I do not have Yahoo companion installed. To further explain my problem, I
have I have webpages I visit alot and some never give me that error message.
But there are some webpagers the error message pops up almost as soon as the
webpage has loaded. It shuts down IE and you have to go back and start it up
again. Very annoying. I know with a little time and patience I could clean up
harddrive and reinstall programs but I like to figure out problems so they
don't happen again.

Mike,
The exact same thing is happening to me. I was advised by someone to go to
system file checker and scan for altered files. Although it found a corrupt
file and restored it, it didn't get rid of the problem. Some pages on the web
give me no problems, but some pages give the error message and shut down
instantly. VERY frustrating. Could it be something to do with Shockwave? The
pages that don't run usually have moving pictures.
Anyone with any suggestions? What would having that yahoo site do?

I think I read another post you responed to about this problem. I put my Win
98 cd in and tried to extract the mscvrt.dll file but it won't let me have
it. Was thinking that the file on Win 98 was the one IE wanted, not a newer
version of one. I will keep checking to see if anyone comes up with a plan.
TIA

Hi Mike
yes it's driving me crazy. Everytime I try to go on internet it just sends
me this error message and shuts down. Is it time to get the bloke in who
charges £40 an hour to fix it!!
It seems to be worse with pages where there's animation so is it something
to do with shockwave? But then I did try to uninstall that.
If you do find the magic solution, please explain it to me in reeeeally
simple steps, and i will be forever grateful!

I will post the fix whenever I get it figured out or if someone figures it
for me. I like challenges but this one has gone on about long enough. I'll
keep checking back....

Mike,

Since you mentioned Win98, you may want to check this article:

Hi Sky
I read the article and it says to remove QuickClick FlyDesk software, but I
could not see that in the list of programmes on my computer, so I can't
remove it...it's not there! do you have any other ideas?
Much appreciated

Sorry, that article isn't very clear, is it? If you don't have the FlyDesk
installed, look for the MS Reader software and uninstall that.

Not sure that will apply or even fix anything, but it was something that
sorta matched what Mike posted when relating to a Win98 system.

Considering this is a Windows Update forum, and we seem to be discussing
Win98 (which isn't really supported anymore) it was a shot in the dark. <g>
