DNS queries returned lowercase?!

Hi,

We have a Windows Server 2003 SP2 DNS server.

It has 1 AD integrated zone called COMPANY.local

Whenever queries are passed to it, it always returns the name in lowercase,
as opposed to uppercase (Which is what the record is)... I know technically
this is not an issue, but I am now using ESX and the hosts have uppercase
names ESX1 etc, but when I add them to Virtual Center they are automatically
converted to lowercase esx1 etc, and I know NIX OS's can be case sensitive...

Is this normal?

Regardless of OS DNS is not case sensitive. So if anything relies on DNS
name resolution it should be happy with a change in case.

As Chris mentioned, DNS is not case sensitive, however it will honor case of
a machine's hostname when it is registered, and it will return the case as
is when queried using nslookup or pings. I'm not sure how Virtual Center
handles case, but it appears it may be forcing it to lower case. However it
shoudn't bother resolution.
