Hi Folks - Have a DNS question for the guru's.
We have a 2003 AD called company.local and host DNS for it - everything is
working great.
We have a public space called public.com and our ISP hosts the DNS for it.
Throughout the years, I have dummied up internal-only resolutions for
public.com and served them up via WINS - under 16 characters, worked fine.
We're about to retire WINS for good, and i want to move these dummy entries
over to our AD DNS. I found where I can add a new forward zone - and add A
records to it. Now on to my question - i don't want any overlap, I'd rather
not add our "real" public address to our internal server, so if i add
public.com to our internal DNS server, do i need to add all the records, or
just the internal-only addy's? For instance,
Test.public.com - i'd add this entry to the internal DNS for resolution
www.public.com - if i didn't add this to the internal DNS, would it forward
the request to the public DNS servers, or just return no value?
Many kind thanks.
