every computer has the dns set to the server. oddly, when i tried to do the
//server/connectcomputer, it kept failing on every computer. every computer
was therefore set up manually on win2k. also unable to login to companyweb
from any computer, including the server. i should not have more than one
domain controller. how do i remove this extra one? this is just a string of
problems i am encountering, any help helps...

You haven't given us nearly enough detail
and I'm not sure we are talking about the same product

Did Microsoft Exchange come with your product...
Is this a new install??
How many nics in the server?
what are they connected to?
what are the workstations connected to?

Please post and IPconfig /all from workstation and from server

no, only the server local area connection nic is connected. because of the
way the network was setup and how it needed to be installed, only using one
nic was easier. suggesting that using two nics one as direct connection to
broadband modem and one to the router? how could i do that so that the
server isnt lagged down? i`m more afraid that because of the servers
hardware specs that using the recommended would slow internet and use of
shared files.
