Do automate windows updates function through a standard account?

I want to update my windows through a standard account (that is, to surf as
much as possible without admin rights for security reasons).
I get en error 0x8DDD0004 when I try that in http://update.microsoft.com.
Do automate windows updates function if I surf through a standard account?

Tks (Windows Xp, as well as Vista)

I searched a little before to post and cannot find an answer to my question
in the previous discussions.
Kindly answer to it if I clarify:
Do Windows XP automatic updates function through a standard (limited)
account. Maybe I do not use the right terminology, although I believe my
question is clear.
Forget about the Vista for now.

I am not an expert. I use Windows Vista, as such I can only tell you what
Vista does regarding your questions.
First and foremost, if you set Windows Update to automatic downloading and
installing, which account you are surfing is irrelevant.
It will do the installing without your knowledge.
I assume you mean "user account WITHOUT admin rights " when you said
standard account. If yes, the answer is NO. In user account, you cannot :
Install/Uninstall programs, Change Settings, create new accounts/remove
accounts, set parental controls, least of all installing Windows Updates.

If you configure Automatic Updates to install updates automatically, then they
will do so regardless of which account you are using.

If you prefer to install only updates you have approved, you can still do this
from a standard user account by setting the ElevateNonAdmins registry flag as
described here:

(Ignore the fact that the document talks about WSUS; most of the settings,
including that one, apply equally well to ordinary automatic updates.)

Alternately, you could just log into your administrator account once a week or
so to check for updates.

OK, do not know if I post in the right place but I answer to all those who
answered to me in the first place.
I presume that windows updates of Windows XP function alright if they are
automated regardless the account I'm surfing myself.
I checked and doublechecked it, when I'm surfing without admin rights I see
nothing but if I log in an admin account when off-line, the yellow shield
appears and asks me to install updates or, alternatively when I shut down the
pc I have the option to do so with or without installing the updates.
I presume also, the Vista function in some similar way (didn't check that
yet).
I'd like to add this question.
When I first used the Windows XP two things helped me enormously in security
issues that didn't exist in Windows 98, the system restore option and the
admin/user account difference.
Can anybody mention here in one or two words if the Vista have any new
charcteristic equally important for security?
