You can do it manually by copying and pasting your e-mails in Windows Explorer.

Sounds very simple but I don't know where to begin. Do you select messages
individually? When I try to copy, the copies go to a file in the email
program.

Open Windows Explorer, Menu bar (press ALT if not visible) Tools > Folder
Options, View tab, click Show hidden files and folders radio button and uncheck
hide protected operating system files (Recommended) and click Yes button on
warning dialogue, navigate to C:\Users\ "your account name"
\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders. Select the folders (or .eml
files, NOT the .fol files) you wish to backup and Edit > Copy. Create a folder
(subfolder) where you wish to save the messages and right click > Paste.

To save time navigating in the future, right click on the Windows Mail folder >
Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)

Go back to Tools > Folder Options, View tab and click Do not show hidden files
and folders and check Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)

Now, when you want to get to your e-mail store, just double click on the desktop
shortcut. If you want to preview the e-mails: Organize > Layout and enable
Preview Pane (very, very slow however)

Thank you Cal Bear '66. I was able to follow your directions and do all that
you suggested and now have a backup file on my desktop and on CD.

I can't check it out right now to know whether I can import from this file,
however. I tried to import the files into Outlook Express on my laptop still
running XP and could not make that work. I do appreciate your help and hope
that this backup will work if needed. Thanks, again.

You're welcome.

If you can't import, you can just copy and paste back. I have done it and it
does work.

OK, now you MUST tell me, which other two UCs? Please.

Hi Lorraine / Dave etc,
Was this problem ever sorted? I had exactly the same problem - and
found your posts here. Then I decided to try to store the backup on my
C drive, rather than the external HD that I had been trying before. It
suddenly worked! So I thought well all I have to do is copy that lot
from C to the HD. But now I get a warning message entitled Property
Loss - Are you sure you want to copy this file without its properties?
By the number of files stated, I know that it means for each and every
email message. I have also searched the web for tips on this error, but
can't find anything remotely useful.
Does this error mean I may as well not bother proceeding as the backup
will be useless? Would very much appreciate any advice! Thanks
