I want to delete a large number of emails in my inbox, but I cannot find a
"select all" function in order to do a mass delete.

Am I missing something?

Are you missing the Menu bar - hit ALT - see the Menu bar now? Then Edit -
Select All.
Otherwise, you can use the Shft-click method to highlight a block of emails
to delete.

As in any Windows program you can use Ctrl-click or Shift-click
to select multiple items. Shift-click is used to select contiguous items,
while Ctrl-click is useful for selecting non-contiguous items.

Same as all things Windows.

Delete them all: Highlight one message header and Ctrl+A will highlight them
all.

Delete a section: Highlight the first message header. Scroll to the last
message header and click on it while holding down the Shift key.

Delete random messages: Hold down the Ctrl key while you click on each
message you want deleted.

In every case, use Delete after the messages are highlighted.

Forgot to mention, if you were missing the Menu Bar, you can click the
middle icon of the three on the far right of the screen (next to the ? icon)
and select "Show Menu Bar" - to keep it on-screen permanently.

Sounds like you need to get the focus on one of the unwanted messages
first - then Ctrl+A and all the other normal Windows selection methods
should work for you - they seem to be working for me both in Quick Views and
via individual accounts.

To permanently delete messages without sending to Deleted items, Shift +
Delete.
Warning: make sure the messages are highlighted, not the folder.
