What do I call it again?

So, I'm still waiting for someone with technical knowledge to answer my
question.
My last post was hijacked by a flame war so whoever might have been reading
my post just got fed up with the crap and left it to the flamers. Could
someone
just answer my question without sarcasm and flaming please?

What do you call a window that is always on top and semi-transparent (like a
ghost)? But clicks and typing will go through to the windows beneath it.
I'm searching for such a product, but I can't figure out what to call it.
I'm looking for one that is compatible with video.

It's not wallpaper, background, or a screensaver. I've found other products
that do this but they are not compatible with video because of resources
and hardware acceleration. There is a product available at mindmovies.com
for a monthly fee, but what is the point of paying monthly for something I
could
just own and use? If the capability is there, then there must be a product
somewhere.
My biggest problem is that I don't know how to word what it is I'm Googling.
What
am I looking for?

Andy

You might try 'overlay'

Michael

Hi,

Just a wild guess,

Did you see it on web sites or desktop applications?

If it's on web sites, you might be seeing something called Lightbox, which
will present a window to overlay on the current page, and upon user's input,
it will take you to a different page.

The purpose of the lightbox (other than, looks cool) is to reduce
distractions from other areas of the page so the user can focus on the
current input fields.

Search the net using keyword - lightbox for more information.

If it's not from a web site, I couldn't figure out what it is.

Hope this helps and good luck.

It's more likely to be some form of VMR than Overlay mode.

So, basically, you want to see transparent videos while you are trying to
work, in some sort of effort to subliminally alter your mind? <chuckle>

If you read up on Subliminal Messages on Wikipedia, there are links to
scientific papers that conclude that there is no evidence in support of it.

I did. TWICE. This is third and final time.

What do you call such a window? A figment of your imagination.

Simply put, you can't do what you want. It is not physically possible
in Vista for the reasons already given to you in earlier replies. This
is the third time I've told you. Has it sunk in yet?

It seems you just don't like the answer. Maybe you can become a
fanboy. You have all the qualifications. You would be a perfect
addition to the Useful Idiots Club because you seem perfectly willing
to shove your head in the sand and ignore reality. That's the main
qualification of becoming a fanboy. Facts roll off your back like
water rolls of a duck. If you prefer to remain dumb and not learn, so
be it, I'm finished trying to educate you.

Frank, you damn dickhead. The OP wants a TRANSPARENT or
semi-transparent window so the doofus can see and use windows
underneath while this window is full screen. Can't be done. Period.

Naturally, nothing prevents Frank from showing how stupid he is.

Let's insult everyone who posts. Feel better now? Is your EGO stroked?
Add one to your insult count. You count has reached more than 97,000+
insults over the last few years. Pretty sick statistics for a moron who
makes this his lifes work.

Better call your mental professional for more treatment.

Just FYI
