Which update is it ? To cancel the update, go to Start > Run
Type in
net stop wuauserv
Click OK
Navigate to the WINDOWS\Software Distribution\Downloads folder and
delete all contents of it
The Automatic Updates service, that we stopped by running the
net stop wuauserv command, must be restarted for updates to install
To do that, go to Start > Run > type in
net start wuauserv
Click OK
If you restart the AU service then the update will download again.
It may just have been that the Downloads folder was stuffed up or data
in there was corrupted/damaged.
