Do clients need to remain on network for scheduled install?

I have clients setup, through group policy, to download updates from my WSUS
server and install them on Thursday at 6pm. My question is, do these
computers need to remain connected to the network in order to install the
updates?

Because I have users who want to take their laptops home with them on
Thursday night, but I am unsure as to whether the update will install if the
computers are not on the network at 6pm.

Jim,

WSUS can not push updates to systems that aren't present on a network
unless they're connected remotely at 6 PM.

But according to WSUS, the updates have already been downloaded on the
clients, they are just waiting to install. Does that matter?

If the update is already downloaded, it should install at the scheduled time
regardless of whether the network is present or not.

Harry.
