I have a Dell XPS 420 desktop with 2 CD/DVD drives.
I want to copy a DVD to my computer. How do I do that? When I place the disc
in the drive a box comes up to play it but not to copy it.

What's on the DVD? As opposed to the pop-up dialog, what does Windows
Explorer show? You should be able to copy from Windows Explorer.

You need specific software to make copies of movies. Google DVDShrink. You
may also have to deal with copy protection issues.

I hope you purchased it. The *cough* versions available online at torrent
sights have a nasty virus attached to them.

"Sights"? How would you know? Ever hear of scanning a download with an
AV program before running it?

It was software that came with the computer. I had just forgotten about it.
