How do designate where updates get installed?

I noticed that some of my updates for Vista (x64 Vista Ultimate) were saved
to my external hard drive. I think this may have caused a previous problem
where I needed to reload the entire Vista software. I want to make sure that
it always saves to my hard drive. There is plenty of room on both hard
drives (about 170GB and 135GB). But, as I go through the options on Windows
Update it doesn't give me the option of where to download the updates to,
only the option of when I want to do it.

Disconnect the external drive prior to either Windows[Automatic] Updates
initiating or prior to initiating a Manual update check.
Updates are *supposed* to be saved to the drive with the most free
space. That's not always the case though <w>

No, I don't think I needed ISO image files. Though it might help if I
understood exactly what they were, but from reading that article it sounded
like they were parts of security patches. Anyhow the other comment that was
posted seemed to make sense, about just unplugging the external hard drive
when I run Windows Update and to do so Manually. Though, if I could just
tell it to always put it on the C drive that would be cool so I could let it
run automatically. Thanks for the quick response.

A jester, joker, fool or buffoon, is a specific type of entertainer mostly
(but not always) associated with the Middle Ages
