How do I disable automatic microsoft updates?

Hi, my name is Ashley and I was wondering how do I
disable the automatic updates... they keep altering my
computer and messing up a lot of things I have on it.
Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!! Thanks!

This is just to add to my original message,

If anyone has any information that could help me, can you
please e-mail it to me. I would also like to say that I
did got My Computer to disable it and the window that
popped up did not have Windows Updates anywhere on the
page. An alternative way of solving this bugger of a
problem would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!!

You don't say which version of XP you are using but you should be able to
configure WU going to Start/Control Panel look on the left "Windows Update"
and there are various options in there for you to alter the way it behaves.
