How Do I Enable Aero w/o the Minimum Hardware Reqs?

What is the trick to enable Windows Aero on a Vista Ultimate [Retail]
system with hardware that doesn't support it (i.e., one where the
"Windows Aero" color scheme doesn't show as an option because the
graphics hardware doesn't meet the minimum Aero requirements)?

This is just for temporary testing and taking certain screen caps on a
non-production system, so I don't care if performance takes a major hit
or even if it keeps crashing.

TIA.

You can't. Windows Aero is hardware dependent
which means you need a video card that is supported
be Windows Vista Aero.

Thanks, I thought there was some Registry trick but couldn't find it.
Now I know why.

I even have the same problem with VMware on a system where, even if
shared with the VMware session, the hardware should support it - but the
option doesn't appear in the client (just the host). I guess I'll try a
VMware forum and see if anyone there knows a way to make VMware do it.
Taking screenshots of a VMware session would work better for me anyway.

that is the case where the display adaptor does support glass...

its a new generation card.. not like the older ones...

this tweak does not work with most integrated on board cards for example...

vmware loads a non 3d accelareted driver inside the client...

that cannot support vista even if your host machine can..

its a limitation.. HOWEVER I have seen a tweak that enables acceleration in
the client
by changing a parameter in the vmx file. This will work only with vmware
workstation
and is experimental.

I am not sure that this will enable aero though in the client... if you are
able to do it
please let us know!!!

thanks

You can't get Aero activated in any virtual machine because the VM won't
meet the minimum standards either. They all emulate a very low end graphic
card, so no Aero.
