What to do with files from previous patches

It's about win xp sp3
Installed are win xp pro sp2 then all succeeding security updates /
hot-fixes.

Is it better to remove all previous security updates / hot-fixes
(those been installed after win xp sp2)
prior installing sp3 for win xp ?
Just to get rid of several directories with names like
$NtUninstallKBxxxxx$ placed under %SystemRoot%.
There are hundreds of MB here present !
%SystemRoot% directory gets hardier to navigation using any file explorer.

What does sp3 do with those files normally
without any user intervention ?
Are they still placed here after having sp3 installed ?
May they then be removed manually ?
