Hi,
A .reg file is actually just a text file with commands for the built-in registry editor in
Windows to automatically execute. Since you're getting this message, I want you to be aware
that either something has specifically broken that association in Windows or there is further
damage to your Windows installation. We can work around it but I just thought you should
know that something is broken there outside of what's normal in a Windows installation.
To directly answer your question, the only time it checks for Messenger is when you "sign in"
to MSN Explorer.
You used to be able to create direct connections as you're asking, but I really have no idea
if it still works. The key (besides knowing your access number) is just to set up a new
connection in Windows and for the username add MSN/ to the beginning. So, if my username was
, the username would be:
MSN/jon
OR
MSN/
(I'm not sure which it was, Google didn't help, so try both)
And then for your password, just enter it normally.
If you don't have any luck with that, to workaround that .reg file issue, save the .reg file
to the desktop, then click Start, then Run, and enter the following:
%windir%\regedit.exe %userprofile%\desktop\trickmsn_msgr.reg
and click OK. It should ask you to enter the registry entries into the registry, just click
Yes.
