How do I get Vista to recognize my viewer?

When I try to open an image using the right click, open with, select a
program function, Vista doesn't offer me my Photoshop. I browse for it and
click on the program exe and click ok and then it's still not there. I can
start Photoshop and open the file, but I'd like to be able to right click a
picture and use the "open with" feature.

Is there some compatibility or security setting I have to change?

What do you see if you right click on a jpg image file in Windows
Explorer and then click open with?

I see a list of my applications including Photoshop that understands a
jpg file. You should see a two part list open in a small window. The
top portion reflects which of your applications recently opened the
kind of file you just clicked on while the lower part should show two
more options, choose default program and other programs which should
generate a much long list if you have a lot of graphic applications
that are capable of opening a jpg file.

By default Photo Galley should be set to open jpg files. So, you
should be able to single click on a jpg image in Windows Explorer and
if you set organize layout to also show detail pane as you walk your
way down your list of files left-mouse single clicking each a
thumbnail will appear in the detail pane.

If you double click a jpg that should spawn Photo Galley. Once the
file is open in Photo Gallery, clicking it's open choice on the menu
bar also should spawn Photoshop and other graphic programs.

If you don't like that arrangement you can always go to Control Panel,
Default Program, open the master file association table and set
another application as default. Depending on what you pick as the
default controls what actions you'll be able to control.

Since I have in excess of a million photos on this system I don't want
to spawn Photoshop every time, mainly because it takes too long to
load and is overkill if I'm just browsing. So I find this method quite
useful and an improvement over XP.

Try making Photoshop the default, and then change it back to whatever it was
before. Does Photoshop appear in the Open With list then? It appears in
mine.

When I right click and select "open with", photoshop is not listed. When I
click the two little down carrots inbetween the windows, photoshop was still
not listed. I browsed to the photoshop.exe file, clicked on and it was not
added to my choices. For some reason, Vista won't acknowledge photoshop. I'm
thinking I must be able to change some setting or add a line to something to
get photoshop to integrate correctly.
