Hi, I have Windows Live Mail on my desktop computer but I can't figure out
how to get it on my laptop. I tried downloading it again but it makes a
whole new account and have to make a new email addy. What can I do to get my
account to laptop.
Thank you,
Pippa

Windows Live Mail does not require one to create any account (mail or news)...press the button that says Cancel.

To 'get' your email and news accounts from one machine with WLM to another machine with WLM...

Desktop Pc:
1. Ensure WLM's menu is present(click on the small square[upper right of toolbar] to the left of the '?' and select Show Menu)
2. Click Tools/Accounts/<select an account>/Click Export
- save the file(iaf extension) to a flash drive (copy these iaf files to your laptop)
3. Repeat step 2 for all mail and news accounts

Laptop PC
1. Open WLM (do not add any accounts if prompted)
2. See step (1) above...enable WLM menu
3. Click Tools/Accounts/
- remove any unnecessary accounts
4. Click Tools/Accounts/Import
- navigate to the location on your flash drive or the folder where you copied the iaf files on your laptop
- Select an iaf file, click Open
5. Repeat step 4 for all mail and news iaf files

Thank you for responding. I did what you said with the desktop, but I can't
open WLM on laptop because I don't have it on the laptop, that's what has me
stumped.
Thank you,
Pippa.

I opened my WLM at the WLM site but it doesn't have the tools options, sorry
I thought I had it.

You are posting using Outlook Express. OE is an email program that came
with Internet Explorer 6.
Windows Live Mail is an email program that may come on a new Win 7 computer.
In most cases, you will have to download WLMail. The only site for WLMail
is the download site. download.live.com/wlmail
WLMail will run on XP, Vista, or Win 7.

Could you been talking about the sign in for Windows Live? If you are, then
you can use the same Live ID that your desktop uses.
When you are using WLMail on your desktop, does it say Sign in under the
Close X or does it say your Live ID?

If Windows Live Mail is not installed on the laptop, all efforts setting up an email account in WLM are moot.

On your laptop go to http://download.live.com, download and save the full installer file

To learn how to save the full installer file See Step 5 and 5b in the following
Windows Live Essentials Availability
http://liveunplugged.spaces.live.com...90CA!424.entry

Once the file is saved to your laptop, navigate to the saved file location and then install Windows Live Mail on the laptop
following the instructions provided earlier.

Thank you both for responding,
Yes, my default at the moment is O.E., because I cannot get WLM on my
laptop. I can sign in at the WLM web site using laptop but I wanted it on
desktop to save going to the site. I used to have it but my computer crashed
and now I can't get it back. Now when I use O.E., sometimes I want to save a
special email to a folder away from O.E., and now they open in Word (I have
Office 2007). I don't like that because on all the email opens in Word, I
can't click on a link I may want to go to in a saved email in Word, it's
very frustrating. Even if I could stop that I would be happy. I've also
downloaded the web installer, same thing I cannot continue with the
installation because it tells me I already have mail installed but I know
for sure I do not..

I have been to download.com and installed the installer file, but after I
agree to everything the next dialogue box "choose Programs you want to
install" and everything has a green tick next to it, Messenger, Mail, Photo
Gallery,Toolbar,Writer, Family Safety Microsoft Office Outlook,Microsoft
Live add in. When I click on the mail I'm told I already have it installed,
but I don't. When I navigate to Windows Live folder in Windows Explorer I
find the Windows Live folder there, but nothing to do with mail, I think
that is all Messenger etc. stuff. Does this mean I cannot install it on my
laptop?., if not I hope I can change the way saved emails open in Word, it
drives me nuts. I can use my windows live on the desktop computer.

I would appreciate it if you would tell me it can be done or not, so I can
then try to find out how to stop my saved emails opening in Word.

Many thanks,
Pippa.

I just had another thought, what if I uninstalled everything to do with
Windows Live, like Messenger and all those things that are listed, mail
etc., that have the green tick telling me I already have mail, then
reinstall everything, do you think then I could get my WLM on the laptop?.
Pippa.
