OK. I updated everything that I let slide since July, and all's well. The only thing that auto updates still wants from me
is to update dot-net 2. Do I have to do that? Can I just uninstall dot-net 2? I don't think I use it.

You don't think, we don't know.
Only you know if you utilize any of the .NET Frameworks... (1.1, 2.0, 3.0 or
3.5?)

Your video card software - etc - anything may/may not utilize it. You'll
have to look at the requirements for each or uninstall it and watch for
consequences.

Did you choose to install it yourself (.NET Framework 2.0) or did something
install it as a requirement?

Some other program wanted me to install it. I tried the other program and didn't care for it. So I uninstalled it. The
chipboard and cards in this computer are from 2001. So I doubt they need dot-net 2.

I don't have 1.1 or 3. or anything else.

By all means, uninstall it if no other software requires it to run.
If you run into any issue uninstalling it, use this tool to 'rip' it
out: http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools...eanup_tool.zip
Read the included ReadMe file, run the cleanup tool and have it remove
..NET Framework 2.0. If it states there was an error removing it, leave
the tool open and reboot the system. That will remove it <w>
