What to do if an update fails in general?

I want to ask if any general workflow exists on WSUS console for failed
updates? How do I force to reinstall the current update? Is there a source
through WSUS console for logs of failed updates (reason of failing, etc.)?
Is it a good solution to download and install manually for that specific
machine? Will the successful manual update will be reported to WSUS server?
