How do I locate what my system is ...for new updates

It is suppose to be microsofr windows 2000, plus I have windows office xp
loaded on my computer.
When I download new updates it will tell me either.....You have a different
version or it will select the downloads and then they will not install

This is rge error # I get 0x80246008
