I will be doing basic things such as surfing the internet and playing games
on the internet.

Kevin

1 GB will 'work' but 2 will be noticibly better. If the video on the laptop
'shares' ram you should go for the 2 GB.

what Michael said. I've got two laptops in the house. the one with 2GB
is noticeably more responsive.

As always, how much RAM you need for good performance depends on what
apps you run. Decent performance for most people running Vista usually
starts at 1GB, but depending on what games you run, 2GB might be
significantly better. As far as surfing the internet, 1GB is
undoubtedly sufficient.

Surfing the internet doesn't require a high spec machine; however, if you
are gaming then the more powerful the machine and the more memory you have
the better.

By a FAST USB Flash Drive - 2 Gig or 4 Gig is better and use at least 1.75
Gig or
2.5 Gig as ReadyBoost.... be sure to get a FAST drive. This allows 1 Gig On
Board
RAM to function pretty good.

ReadyBoost Drives - Compatible

ReadyBoost Incompatible

My Vaio laptop came with 1 gig of RAM. Vista ran okay, but only okay.
After adding a second gig, Vista flew.

I think it depends on what else in installed on your machine.

When I bought my Lenovo T60 I thought it would run fine with 1gb, but due to
all the other junk they installed on it ran awfully.

I upgraded to 2gb quickly and with 2gb it runs a lot more smoothly even with
most of the junk still on there.

That was my experience for what its worth...
