do I need .NET Framework on my computer?

Hello:

I am not a developer, just an ordinary user. I keep downloading the
updates/fixes for .NET Framework - but I have no idea what it does! Do I
need to have these files on my computer? Now that I have .NET 2.0, can I
delete the earlier versions? I hear that 3.0 is now out. Do I need it, and
does it replace 2.0 so I can delete it?
Thanks.

In general - if nothing you have/run uses it - you do not need it.
Many new applications use either .NET Framework 1.1, 2.0 - and the list of
3.0 users will continue to grow.

1.1 and 3.0.

1.1 is patches to 1.0. So those two merge.
2.0 did not replace 1.1 - some apps you may run into may still utilize 1.1.
3.0 is 2.0+more. SO if you have 3.0, you can do all the 2.0 stuff and 3.0
stuff.

So again - if you are going to do anything - put 1.1 and 3.0 on your machine
and keep them patched.
