It seems you and the Microsoft tech misunderstood each other or you were
misinformed.
SP-2 does not replace any of those things.
The protection they provide is needed with or without SP-2.
SP-2 enhanced overall computer security as well as some of those tools:

Most problems installing Service Pack 2 are related to preexisting problems.
All problems, known and unknown, need to be resolved before installing
anything especially something as major as a Service Pack.
Nothing can guarantee no problems, but a computer free of problems is the
best place to start.

is ready for SP-2:
